Danbury Aging in Place Council
Of the 80,000 plus who live in Danbury, more than 9,200 are over the age of 65. (US Census 2010) In line with national trends, over the next 20 years, this number is expected to increase by nearly 32% – the most rapid increase in history. This dramatic demographic shift presents a unique opportunity and challenge to our community.
Formed in 2012 by a group of service providers and community leaders, the Danbury Aging in Place Council is dedicated to creating a community where older adults (65+) have the opportunity to live safely, independently, and with dignity in the home of their choice.
Its purpose is to enhance the work of existing organizations by creating additional mechanisms and opportunities for coordination and collaboration; address gaps in the current service delivery system through the creation of new collaborative initiatives and/or programs; and create a system of measurement to guide public and private investment.
One major goal was to develop the Danbury Senior Resource website to coordinate information and services. Staff at the Elmwood Hall Senior Center will support and maintain the website, as well as continue to support a call center and provide in-person appointments.
